I Live......Again.......

Update: Now available at Amazon, too. Those guys like to under promise and over deliver.

For all you people that like to hold actual paper in your hot little hands, here's the real deal.

The printed version of the book is now available in my CreateSpace store and from Amazon.com. The Amazon option has free shipping if you spend over $25.

Honestly, I get a bigger piece of the pie ($6 vs. $3) when you buy directly from Createspace, but it's completely up to you.

I've also ordered a small quantity to have on hand in case anyone wants me to write something ridiculous in their copy. I'm not sure how soon I'll have them though. Perhaps in time for Christmas, or perhaps not. I hope so.

This version has at least one less typo than the Kindle version because a few people who bought the Kindle version gave me a heads up and I fixed it. I'm OCD like that. Also, it was in the Introduction. I might be able to live with a typo 200 pages in, but seriously, the second page? No way I could let that sit there and nibble chunks out of my soul every day. The downside is, I'll have about 25 copies of what I call "the very expensive mistake - typo edition" sitting on my porch sometime this week.

I've decided to have a contest to give some of these away. It could be fun. But then again, at one point I also decided to type the word "I'll" instead of the word "I'm" so I can't really be trusted in matters such as these.

I was going to have a contest to see who could find the most mistakes, but then I figured that would just depress me. But I'll think of something.

Enjoy! And thanks again for your support!

  2. Dammit...I was all set to order off your thingy, but I have a fetish for signed books. So...maybe I'll do both. As for the typo copies; don't feel bad. I paid $120 for a "collector's edition" of fairy tales from Amazon, only to spot FIVE typos. In a book that was like 100 pages. People tell me it makes it more valuable, so go that route.

  3. KC, if you order one and send it to me, I'll sign it and send it back!

Woo Hoo!! Too many options for me. Instant gratification of ordering now and getting the book sooner than later, participating in a contest, possibly winning and getting to say I won this awesome book or waiting it out and getting a signed copy from the author of my favorite blog site. Whatever shall I do?

    CONGRATULATIONS JV!!

  8. Oh, and I posted a link to the blog on my Facebook page, hope you don't mind. My cohorts and I were all kids in the '70's, and will totally identify with your stories.

  9. I don't suppose you have considered doing an audio version (unabridged of course) have you?

Errr...on second thought scratch that, I only listen to audiobooks when I'm driving or at the gym, and uncontrolled snickering gets me strange looks at the latter, and into accidents while doing the former...

Johnny - OMG! I (well, really YOU) will be responsible for many ruined pieces of furniture as my gift-recipients will be peeing themselves laughing at your stories!! Merry Christmas :)

  13. KMarie, thanks! Might I suggest one of each? No? Ah, well. Can't blame a guy for trying.

Anon, thanks! Sorry if it formats like crap on anything but the Kindle. Those tiny screens are tough.

Fireant, sure you can. I think it may actually devalue it slightly though.

    Diane, thank you so much!

Rick, someone else suggested that it would be the perfect format for a podio cast. Unfortunately, I have a voice that was made for silent film, so I'd have to get someone else to do it for me.

    Dude, don't expect too much.

ChadandDana, Thanks, I hope you get some laughs out of it.

Diane, you too. Send the shampooing bill to me. I'll take care of it. But don't try to sneak in that La-Z-Boy that your incontinent Great-aunt sits in all the time because I'll know.

Army of Darkness references go without saying...

I am going to see how I can get my hands on one of those sweet typo versions. It'll probably be worth huge amounts of money when you're all famous and dead (hopefully in that order and not real soon - at least for the last part).

  16. Holy Hell!! That is sooo awesome! Congratulations! I can't wait to read it! I'll just be all gushy for a minute and say that your stories are incredible and I have told eleventy-jillion people that very thing.

  17. I didn't realize you had a post about BOOMSTICKS. Used to ride my commuter train right past the place where they had the castle set built, very bizarre sight tp see coming out of the canyon.

So I've lurked around here for many years now and have thoroughly enjoyed your writing. I know who "The Snitch" is, and I know who "Houdini" is. The one thing I have never seen is their nickname for you? Does this exist? Have I missed it somewhere? Do I have to buy the book to find out? I'm hoping my answer is somewhere in the pages of the book, I'll be purchasing one shortly. Thanks so much for completing this project!

  20. Hey JV I just ordered your book on Amazon. Pretty excited, despite the fact that I've read your entire website I'm still pretty excited to re-read it in hard copy form. I would have liked a signed copy but not everyone can get one!! Good Luck. Hope amazon doesn't rip you off too much.

  21. Congratulations! I am so excited - I'm going to get my BIL a copy for Christmas and my husband too. I just know it will be a hit with them.

Regarding the typos, I have a couple of my own books like that... I know how you feel and I too am trying to rethink them as "rare".

  22. I am a silent reader of your blog and I would like to buy your book. I would love for you to sign it. Do you think I could ship it to you directly from Createspace or Amazon and then you could sign it and send it to me (I can send you a mailer through UPS)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hi Jan, if you have paypal, you could just send the money for the book and postage to my email address and I can ship you a signed one when I receive them.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'd be interested in a signed copy (with typos of course...) myself.
Paypal is no problem, but I do live on the other side of the pond, so shipping could be an issue.

  25. Rick, email me, I'm sure we could work something out!

Darn. Amazon.ca does not carry it... Oh well, that would give me an excuse to order through CreateSpace, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  27. First of all, congrats! I am excited both for myself to get to read it and for you to have gotten it into print--yay!

I was all set to order from CreateSpace (more $ for you and all), but dude...the shipping is brutal! I was ordering 3 and in order to get them by Xmas it was going to be over $30 just for the shipping! So, it looks like it's off to Amazon for me...

  28. KCMom, really?? That's just nuts! I don't blame you.

I just finished reading I laughed out loud and loved every minute. You need to write another to keep me entertained. Seriously, the book rocks. I wish you all the best! I hope you make lots of money.

  30. Awesome. If you get a chance, give it a review. Every little bit helps!

  31. Compar (wv) to what pray tell? Mine is ordered and through the not Amazon one. I can wait - I have been laughing out loud for awhile - and to think I found you through a Milblog I follow. Never thought I would get so many laughs. Much success to your endeavor.

Left this review on Amazon.com two minutes ago:

This is a totally irreverent look at childhood related by Johnny Virgil. A laugh a minute, it covers incidents and impressions from a childhood well lived. This book is incredibly fun to read, and brings back so many memories of your own childhood. The stories he tells draw you in, and then BAM! It's a totally (un)expected outcome.

I can't say enough about how much fun this book is to read. You can't go wrong.

    Peace <3
