xs.to.pound.me.in.the.ass.com

Before Blogger allowed hosting of pictures, I used this place called http://xs.to to store them. It was free, and pretty reliable. When Blogger started hosting them, it was easier and I sort of drifted away from xs.to. Well, I guess they drifted away from me as well, because they just dropped about everything I had stored there from mid-2006 on back.

I am currently going through my posts one by one and replacing the pictures. I cannot tell you how much this sucks, and how much it makes me want to stab them in the neck with my car.

ps - If anyone knows how to get blogger to drop the picture where my friggin' text cursor is, instead of at the top of the post, please let me know before I kill myself. Thank you.

Bastards. They probably did it just to see if you were paying attention....

    Good luck!

  2. I think the ones that weren't paying attention was them.
Wow, I'm number 2? that's a first (not that I ever comment after I read your posts)......it sucks, since I don't have much to say about this subject. I don't store pics online.....
Have fun this weekend! it looks like you'll be busy.

I understand your desire to inflict horrible pain on them, but wanted to thank you for replacing the pictures! I have been slowly (whenever I have a free moment to procrastinate at work) reading the older posts, so some pics would help!

  4. Whoa, good luck retrieving all that. But remember that you're famous now for the JC Penney post, so we're good so long as those gems are safe for posterity. Bastards. (xs, not future generations).

"stab them in the neck with my car."

What a great visual! I have felt this way many times, but never expressed it so well.

As a dedicated archive-reader, I have to say thanks a million for taking the time to do this. Sometimes it's not essential, but some posts just don't make any sense at all without those pics. Thanks for not just leaving us newbies hanging!

  6. You shouldn't bother on the Aztec photo. I am sure that we all know just how ugly they are and would rather not have to look at one....

  7. If that ever happens to me and I have to replace all the pics on my blog, I am outsourcing that task to India.

    Really, though, that sucks badly!!

  8. Just make sure you see the move-arrow-thingy and not the forbidden circle with the line through it thingy, and then the pic should drop where you want it to. ;)

  9. Sorry about that! "stab in the neck" I've said plenty, but "with my car" adds that certain something.
Would you mind telling me where in your archives the "jc penny" post is? I've been reading them, but would love to get to that one sooner than later. Thank you.

  10. Red Mojo, I added a link over on the right. I'll be adding my favorite posts to it over time.

That bugs the living shit out of me, too. So I wind up immediately cutting `n pasting it where I want.

  12. You can drag and drop the picture where you want it in compose mode. In html mode just cut and paste it where you want it.

  13. Yeah, but when you first browse and add the picture, it's always dropped at the top. Annoying.

  14. I agree! SO annoying! I know that I can copy and paste or drag in Compose mode, but wouldn't it make more sense for the picture to go where the cursor is?!

Maybe we need to all complain. The squeaky wheel, or somethin' like that.

Other than the Blogger thing: HILARIOUS! I love the teeny, tiny top hat with ants on it, who are also wearing top hats! And clover hands. :) LOLz.

  15. I know what you mean...it is soooo annoying huh

    duuuude

various options to put the pic where you want it.

Easiest I have found for control, which you seem to have found, is to upload it, then cut n paste the html code where you want it.

    got it? good.

sux about the pix...I always try to save to 2 different disks, and/or online to make sure stuff is backed up---woulda been nice if they'da told you tho.

oh, and keep up the good work---you are one of the few decent bloggers who still makes me think or lol until I cry sometimes!

  17. Drag and drop works.. if you have the picture on file somewhere.. or on another website.. you can rightclick - hold down, then drag and drop it into the blogger post where your curser is... after many hours spent cursing and dragging uploaded pictures from the TOP of my post to where I wanted them.. I figured it out =)

  18. Mollie.

If that works, I will write a song about you.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I don't believe Mollie. Even if it really works, I don't believe it will.

Sorry to be a cynic, but too often the logical way, the easy way, is just not the way a programmer thinks. A programmer LOVES the fact that images get dropped in at the top of the post instead of where the cursor is because then they GET to manually move them where they want to.

Yay! More meaningless bullshit computer work! Talk about Nirvana.

  20. I tried and it didn't work for me, I was so full of hope, too! Now my hopes have been dashed and I hate blogger just a little bit more.. *sigh*

    :P

  21. that drag and drop thing...anyone get it to work? cuz that was dirty if you got our hopes up.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Didn't work.

Opens the dropped image in a new browser window.

    LIAR!

  23. I really wanted to write a song for Mollie on this one as well. That tendency is crashingly stupid of blogger. It makes orphans cry.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Blogger does that to me, too. Drives me up a wall. It seems so obvious, please the friggin' picture where I have the bloody cursor, but no, Blogger has a mind of its own and thinks I want all of my pics at the beginning of the post.

  25. *sigh*

That sucks. I had an issue with Blogger & Flickr way back, re adding the photos I lost took DAYS.... posting reconstruction is a NIGHTMARE

  27. I'm with you on the picture thing.

    Love your blog.

  28. I totally agree. Blogger's picture format BLOWS.

I use Windows Live Writer (with my WordPress blog). It provides greater picture editing flexibility than Blogger ever did. Highly recommend it.
