I ain't dead (yet.)

Wow.  I really need to crack a window in this place and let in some fresh air. I've been gone so long there's an inch of dust on everything.  I've actually been getting email asking if I'm OK.  So the answer to that question is yes, I'm fine.  Thanks for asking, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.  So what have I been doing?

Lots of this:

Some of this:

A bit of this:

And a bunch of other happy horseshit that comes with being a homeowner.   Sometimes I really miss my apartment.

Just got back from a trip to Ogunquit, Maine with some friends, and I am currently working on a few posts that I hope to have up shortly.  No promises though. September is my vacation month, and I have to finish these damned chairs before they finish me.

Here's a pretty moonlight picture from the right coast:

  1. Thank you for still being alive. It has been lonely around here lately.

  2. I probably have you beat, given that I went the entire month of August without posting on my own blog. Nobody has asked me if I'm okay, so take that as a mark of your popularity! :-)

Looking forward to stories from ME, but hopefully not about grisly tool-related injuries.

    1. No, I'm trying to keep the grisly injuries to a minimum.

Very nice, each and every moment of it! (Except the plumbing, I hate plumbing.)
    Peace <3

  5. Too bad about the happy horseshit. But for that, looks like a good August.

  6. Using a spokeshave and a 'horse, I'll be damned!

    1. Yeah, the shavehorse makes life much, much easier when you're whittling back spindles. It's kind of a pita to store the thing though. I should have made it so I could break it down.

  7. Just out of idle interest, wtf is that tool in the first photo?

    1. It's a spokeshave. kind of a two-handed plane you can either push away from you or pull toward you. The tool in the middle is called a travisher, and it's specifically for hollowing out chair seats.

How do you calculate the radius and depth of hollowing needed to accommodate a reasonable range of butts?

    3. They're like Steve Martin's cruel shoes. I make them to fit my own butt, and anyone else just has to push through the pain.

  9. Ogunquit in the summer? Brave. I used to work in Wells, and the summertime traffic was insane.

    1. It wasn't as bad as we thought it would be. The beach wasn't overly crowded, and there wasn't ever a wait at the restaurants.

  10. Love the coast photo. There should be a framable print option on this one.

Great shots JV. Now I know your not lazy, and I know you've been busy as of late, and it's good to see you posting again. But we all need more humor in our lives... SO GET BUSY DAMN YOU!
Ah well, time for a nap, see you soon ;-)

Glad to see you posting, JV! Even if it is just a check in post and it was on my birthday to boot! Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :-) Can't wait to see the finished chairs. Enjoy your vacation month!
