Lots of this:
Some of this:
A bit of this:
And a bunch of other happy horseshit that comes with being a homeowner. Sometimes I really miss my apartment.
Just got back from a trip to Ogunquit, Maine with some friends, and I am currently working on a few posts that I hope to have up shortly. No promises though. September is my vacation month, and I have to finish these damned chairs before they finish me.
Here's a pretty moonlight picture from the right coast:
Thank you for still being alive. It has been lonely around here lately.
ReplyDeleteI probably have you beat, given that I went the entire month of August without posting on my own blog. Nobody has asked me if I'm okay, so take that as a mark of your popularity! :-)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to stories from ME, but hopefully not about grisly tool-related injuries.
No, I'm trying to keep the grisly injuries to a minimum.
DeleteThat last photo is absolutely stunning! Nice work, JV!
ReplyDeleteThanks UB!
DeleteVery nice, each and every moment of it! (Except the plumbing, I hate plumbing.)
ReplyDeletePeace <3
Jay
You and me both….
DeleteToo bad about the happy horseshit. But for that, looks like a good August.
ReplyDeleteUsing a spokeshave and a 'horse, I'll be damned!
ReplyDeleteYeah, the shavehorse makes life much, much easier when you're whittling back spindles. It's kind of a pita to store the thing though. I should have made it so I could break it down.
DeleteJust out of idle interest, wtf is that tool in the first photo?
ReplyDeleteIt's a spokeshave. kind of a two-handed plane you can either push away from you or pull toward you. The tool in the middle is called a travisher, and it's specifically for hollowing out chair seats.
DeleteHow do you calculate the radius and depth of hollowing needed to accommodate a reasonable range of butts?
DeleteThey're like Steve Martin's cruel shoes. I make them to fit my own butt, and anyone else just has to push through the pain.
DeleteVery nice. Love the hand tool work.
ReplyDeleteOgunquit in the summer? Brave. I used to work in Wells, and the summertime traffic was insane.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't as bad as we thought it would be. The beach wasn't overly crowded, and there wasn't ever a wait at the restaurants.
DeleteLove the coast photo. There should be a framable print option on this one.
ReplyDeleteHa! I can send you the file if you want.
DeleteWelcome back!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots JV. Now I know your not lazy, and I know you've been busy as of late, and it's good to see you posting again. But we all need more humor in our lives... SO GET BUSY DAMN YOU!
ReplyDeleteAh well, time for a nap, see you soon ;-)
Vidna
I'm working on it! Maybe something funny will strike me today...
DeleteYay! So glad you are back!=)
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you posting, JV! Even if it is just a check in post and it was on my birthday to boot! Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :-) Can't wait to see the finished chairs. Enjoy your vacation month!
